"Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
I've spent a couple of weeks trying to figure out what to put in the awkward first blog post. It's never easy to figure out how to start these things. "Hey! I have a blog! And I'll write about... stuff. And things." I've done it twice now for business and the first post is always the toughest. Of course, if you go look at my studio and workshop blogs, you'll find that I just don't keep up with them. The whole idea of a blog is to update it regularly. I have folders of web-resized images just waiting to be blogged, and yet, there it sits. So why do I think this will be any different? It probably won't. I'll probably post this and then weeks from now, Jen will send me a note saying, um, are you still out there? And I'll think, wow, it's been that long already?
Hence the Ferris quote. I am finally getting a chance to breathe. A chance to look around and see where I landed. And I'm realizing that I have missed a lot over the past few months. A fine example: just yesterday, I took Bugsy by her new school to drop off some paperwork. Did you know that today was Meet the Teacher Day? Personally, I was clueless. So we changed our schedule and headed out there this morning to meet the new teacher (who was wonderful, by the way). So while we're there, she mentions that she'll see me on Thursday. Um... Thursday? Oh, yes, the orientation. In San Antonio. Well, yes, I guess I can manage to get babysitting and be there. Then she says goodbye to Charlotte and mentions that she'll see her bright and early on Monday for the first day of school. Mac starts school on the 27th, and for whatever reason I thought that was Bugsy's first day too. So now I feel like a bad mom. I am already getting a "Needs Improvement" on my parent involvement report card. My baby starts school a whole week earlier than I thought. Either I missed a big memo or I just haven't even looked through that pile of mail on the counter.
So that is a slice of my life these days. I hope that I'll be here a little. I hope that I'll be able to stop and look around and actually figure out what is going on in my world. Thanks for the reminder, Ferris.
